After Rain, Petals

Oil on linen over ACM. Painted from studies of wetlands in the Santa Rosa Plateau. I rushed out to the Plateau after a rain and was captivated by the colors reflecting in the water. The rich combination of warm and cool tones in the shallow pools inspired me to use a broken color approach mixed with thin passages of imprimatura in the reflections. I also toned the ground lightly with Terre Ercolano and left the tone exposed throughout where the petals had sunk into the water.
