Exploding Leeks

Painted on Fourth of July...fireworks of a different kind in my garden. Leeks gone to seed, exploding quietly into blossoms! I painted outside that evening while fireworks and partying went on in my neighborhood. I wanted to capture the hazy highlights on the backlit leeks and add definition to the varied greens in the stems. I loved the feel of the light!
