Une rose dans le jardin de Rodin / a rose in Rodin’s garden

Une rose dans le jardin de Rodin / a rose in Rodin’s garden, Floral
Une rose dans le jardin de Rodin / a rose in Rodin’s garden
This is an oil painting on a wooden panel. I used mixtures of turpentine spirits, linseed oil and linseed stand oil. This small painting was started in my tiny apartment in Paris and completed in my studio in my home in Québec using my photographs. I have included a photograph of how it looked before I left Paris. It is back now in Paris where it is privately owned. I modified my usual initial to vaguely represent the Eiffel tower before it was taken away.
In 2014 while living in Paris, I visited the Musée Rodin. Strolling through the magnificent Sculpture Garden, in awe by Rodin’s impressive sculptures, a rose bush caught my attention. This rose in particular was beautiful and perfectly created gently touched by sunlight. It dawned on me then that Nature is, in its own right, the most accomplished sculptor; sorry Rodin.
