This piece is Oil on canvas panel. It is based on a memory from a backpacking trip this last Summer, in July 2021. We hiked in the 1000 Lakes Wilderness in Northern California. This hike brought us several thousand feet in elevation, and we were able to see a beautiful view of the Redding valley. We could see Mt. Shasta, Mt. Lassen, and down to Red Bluff, CA.
We caught a beautiful sunset (in my next submission) and this was the view of some crags on the hike back down. The new of the starts from there was incredible.
Painting is photo-based, but the painting reflects my memory of the place, as well. I focus on atmosphere and movement to try and make an image feel more powerful, much like how it felt to be there in real life. Sometimes photos cannot capture the feeling of a place, but I try to paint the magic back into it.
