Mt. Shasta Sunset

This is the counterpart to the other painting inspired by my 1000 Lakes Wilderness excursion. I backpacked a trail in July 2021 with some family, and we crested Magee Peak in Northern California. We witnessed a beautiful sunset, and were able to see several mountains, lakes, and even the first wildfires of the season (the smoke from the 2021 Dixie Fire and several others would be dominating this landscape in about a month).

At the time we went, the sky was still clear and beautiful, and the hike back down was wonderfully peaceful. This painting is photo-based, but stylized with what I remember feeling from that moment. It was a moment of peace, clarity of mind, and bitter cold (the wind was wicked at 8,000 ft. elevation).

This painting (and my previous submission, "Wilderness Nocturne" were based from this same evening during our trip.
